| Madeira Wine Company |

 |
Madeira Wine is perhaps Madeira’s most famous product, and for many people, the Blandy name is synonymous with the wine. The first Blandy to settle on the island, John Blandy, arrived in 1807, and had established himself by 1811, purchasing a house and adjacent wine stores at number 8, Rua de Sao Francisco. These have become The Old Blandy Wine Lodges, wich are still working lodges open to the public, welcoming approximately 200,000 visitors per year.
In 1989 the Symington family took a controlling share in the Madeira Wine Company, adding Madeira to their existing Port wine portfolio. This has enabled the Madeira Wine Company to benefit from the larger Port wine marketing and distribution network, vital to ensure Madeira’s survival as a specialist wine in the marketplace.

| CIM - Companhia Insular de Moínhos |
 |
Blandy’s involvement in the Madeiran flour and milling industry goes back to the mid 1800’s, when a trade investment was made in a flour milling company, later to become part of CIM.
In 2000 CIM invested in new factory premises in the Zona Franca da Madeira (Duty Free Zone), which included the building of custom made silos to allow the direct of loading of grains from supply ships. |
| Today, CIM continues to mill both wheat and maize, which it uses to make own brand pasta and biscuits, although it no longer bakes it own bread. As a wholesaler, it fulfils 98% of the flour market, supplying the hotel trade and specialist bakers with flour. Despite the increased competition in finished goods, CIM continues to hold a majority share in the regional pasta and biscuit markets. |
