A vintage wine from Madeira has won a top prize for its fortified wine in this year’s competition organised by UK’s leading magazine Decanter. Blandy’s Verdelho 1973 won The International Trophy for Sweet Fortified Wines (priced over £15) in the 2015 Decanter World Wine Awards.


In the 2015 International Wine Challenge (IWC), the International Wine and Spirit Competition and the Decanter World Wine awards, a total of 25 medals (3 Gold Outstanding, 4 Gold, 4 Silver Outstanding, 7 Silver and 6 Bronze) were awarded to Blandy’s for their world-class Madeira.


At the Decanter World Wine Awards, Gold medal winners included Blandy’s Colheita 998 Sercial and Blandy’s Colheita 1996 Malmsey. Silver medal winners were Blandy’s 10 year old Sercial, Blandy’s 10 year old Verdelho, Blandy’s Colheita 1998 Verdelho and Blandy’s Colheita 2002 Bual.


IWSC Gold Outstanding medals were awarded to Blandy’s Colheita 1996 Malmsey and Blandy’s Verdelho 1973. Blandy’s Colheita 2002 Bual was awarded Gold.
Blandy’s 10 year olds including Sercial, Bual and Malmsey walked away with Silver medals, and the Blandy’s 10 year old Verdelho was awarded a Silver Outstanding.
