Symington Family Estates and the Blandy Group are pleased to advise that they have reached an agreement whereby Blandys will regain control of the Madeira Wine Company (MWC), producer of the renowned Blandy’s, Cossart Gordon, Leacock and Miles Madeiras, amongst other historic names. Symington Family Estates will maintain a minority shareholding in the MWC and the distribution of Blandy’s and other MWC brands will continue to be undertaken by the Symington’s associated companies of John E Fells in the UK, Premium Port Wines in the USA and Portfolio in Portugal.

200 Years Celebrations of the establishment of Blandy's Madeira Wine in Madeira since 1811

San Francisco and New York were the chosen locations for two memorable tastings on the 22nd and 24th of March 2011. Some of Blandy's most unique and emblematic dated Madeira Wines were presented spanning 7 generations and 183 years. Blandy's Madeira is the Blandy Group's oldest company represented in 50 countries.

Gold at the 2012 International Wine Challenge and the Decanter World Wine awards

Hot on the heels of its 2011 bicentenary, Blandy’s has struck Gold at the 2012 International Wine Challenge and the Decanter World Wine awards, winning a total of eleven Gold medals (including one trophy for best in class) and 10 Silver medals for their world-class Madeira.

Il Gallo d’Oro, the 5-star restaurant of The Cliff Bay Hotel, in Funchal, has had the star awarded to it by the most influential restaurant guide in the world, the Michelin guide, renewed for the third consecutive year. This distinction was announced yesterday during the ceremony in San Sebastian, Spain, for the launch of the Michelin Guide Spain and Portugal 2011.

Il Gallo d’Oro, belonging to the Porto Bay hotel group, was awarded the star in 2008 and is still the only restaurant on the island of Madeira to receive this distinction.
